Summer and Planning

Spread the love

We’ve been having a really nice summer so far.  Yesterday we went for a hike and a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We did finish listening to Story of the World Volume 3, but that is the only "school" we have done all summer.

I’ve been working on planning for the fall.  Well, I’ve been thinking about working on planning.  I think about it and think about it, but when I try to actually do it, I’m having trouble.  I have sort of a schedule done but I don’t know how workable it is going to be.  My baby and kindergartner are making it difficult for me to figure things out.  I know that the baby will still take a morning nap during some of the school year, but I’m sure it will end sometime.  I just don’t remember how long I should expect her to take 2 naps a day.  Also, I’m going to have to work with my kindergarten son.  I think I can swing that, it’s just a question of how much he’ll cooperate.

I want to do a Civil War unit in history next year.  I really think that a lapbook would be a good way for us to review and summarize our study, but I am overwhelmed.  We’ve done 3 lapbooks so far.   Two were our design, and one was printed out from Live and Learn Press.  I liked having it already done in some ways, but the thing I didn’t like was that a lot of the things in it we hadn’t learned or I didn’t find that important.  I guess I want our lapbooks to be more personalized.  I do however like the looks of the lapbooks for Elementary Apologia.  That would mean someone else would do the thinking of how to do the books, but it would go along with what we’re studying.  So what I’m saying I guess is I want us to make our own Civil War lapbook, since we’re doing our own study.  But that means I’ve got to do it.  Unfortunately, I can’t get my husband too excited about the whole lapbooking idea.  He’s just not crafty at all.  So he doesn’t understand why I think it would be so great.

Well, I guess that’s all for now.  I really need to figure out how to make this blog more interesting, like adding pictures and links and stuff.  That will probably be a project for another day.

All of my little ones were to one nap by about 1 yr. My 2 1/2 yr old is still 1 good long nap most days! I'm praying it continues! We've done zero school this summer, besides some light reading. I've decided because of that we will start back sooner than I planned, but I don't have all my books yet, so we may start back light! We were going to finish SOTW 1 this summer & it didn't happen, so I've decided we will take our time and plan on finishing it by December… oh well hope your planning works out for you and your daughter is a cutie!
