Gratitude Challenge – Days 27,28,29, and 30

I can’t believe that it’s the last day of November! I know it’s cliche, but this year has really flown by. I have to admit that I am feeling rather grumpy this morning, so I need this gratitude challenge more than ever!

Day 27 – I have been spending a lot of my time preparing for our new baby. One thing I am especially grateful for is that my boys have such a big bedroom. We rearranged and cleaned and set up the crib and the room doesn’t even seem cramped!

This picture was taken standing in the doorway. You can’t even see the 2 large bookcases and chests from this angle.

Day 28 – I am grateful for the many beautiful hymns that we are privileged to sing at church. One of my favorites is O For A Closer Walk with God, by William Cowper. I’ve posted the lyrics before, but I’m going to share them again.

O for a closer walk with God,
A calm and heavenly frame,
A light to shine upon the road
That leads me to the Lamb!

Where is the blessedness I knew,
When first I saw the Lord?
Where is the soul refreshing view
Of Jesus and His Word?

What peaceful hours I once enjoyed!
How sweet their memory still!
But they have left an aching void
The world can never fill.

Return, O holy Dove, return,
Sweet messenger of rest!
I hate the sins that made Thee mourn
And drove Thee from my breast.

The dearest idol I have known,
Whate?er that idol be
Help me to tear it from Thy throne,
And worship only Thee.

So shall my walk be close with God,
Calm and serene my frame;
So purer light shall mark the road
That leads me to the Lamb.

Day 29 – I am thankful for our Thanksgiving turkey. I bought a large turkey (23 pounds) and served it to 11 people on Thanksgiving Day.  (We do eat a lot of side dishes, so no one eats a whole lot of turkey.) Since Thanksgiving, we’ve had several turkey sandwiches. Yesterday from the leftovers, I made 3 turkey pies (1 for dinner and 2 to freeze), froze meat for 2 additional casseroles, and broth for soup.  That’s a lot of meals for $9!!!

Day 30 – I am thankful for Brenda for hosting this meme. I am thankful for the Homeschool Crew and the blessing it has been in my life over the last 2 years. (I’m no longer reviewing very much for the Crew, but I do assist.) And I’m thankful for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine for providing HSB, a job for me, and a terrific magazine to support homeschoolers everywhere!

  1. I’m a bit grumpy this evening but I’ve held my tongue. I love the set up of the bedroom too. Thanks for all you do for the crew. You forgot about Turkey A La King. Always has to be at least one of the left over turkey uses LOL

  2. “O for a Closer Walk with God” was written 241 years ago today. If you enjoy reading about our hymns and their authors, I invite you to check out my daily blog on the subject, Wordwise Hymns.
