Vacations are expensive. Does it have to be true? I don’t know any way to get a totally free vacation, but we’ve managed to vacation on a budget for years now. Twittermoms wants to hear our affordable vacation ideas.
Here are 10 ways to save money on a vacation:
1. Drive – To making driving the most cost effective, it is best if you…
2. Choose a vacation spot that is a day’s drive or less from your home. That saves on gas and extra lodging.
3. Stay in a house or condo. For a large family that is both more comfortable and more economical.
We have found good deals on VRBO.com. (Vacation Rentals by Owner)
4. Eat in. You don’t have to eat every meal in, but the more meals eaten in, the more money you will save.
5. Bring your coupons. If you’re eating in, you’re going to have to grocery shop. Be prepared with menus planned, a grocery list, and coupons.
6. Bring your slow cooker. If you have to cook while you’re on vacation, you should make it easier on yourself.
7. Research attractions ahead of time. See if there are discounts available.
8. Stay away from expensive entertainment. Try to pick one or two paid activities for the week, and find other activities that are free. Look for things like state and national parks and historical sites.
9. Check out reciprocating memberships at aquariums and museums. We have local memberships that almost always allow us to get in FREE at museums and aquariums on vacation.
10. Avoid buying souvenirs. Pick up shells at the beach instead.

We are leaving for vacation in just a few days. We will be doing most of the things on your list. In fact, I better get off this computer and start packing our dry good foods.
Blessings,

When staying in bigger cities or regions we also save big by purchasing either a CityPass (http://www.citypass.com) or (http://www.smartdestinations.com/). This has saved us a LOT of money on trips past!!
Those are very good ideas. We love to camp, so that is an economical way to vacation, if you like that sort of thing. I hope you win the card!
