Farraday Road and On My Nightstand

279526: Farraday Road, Lije Evans Mysteries Series #1Farraday Road is the first book in new Lije Evans mystery series by best-selling author, Ace Collins. Lije Evans is a lawyer in a small town in Arkansas. He becomes involved in the mystery of Farraday Road after a tragedy involving him and his wife.

My thoughts:
I received a copy of Farraday Road to review from Zondervan and it sat in my to-read pile for quite a while. When I finally started reading it I couldn’t put it down! I read until one in the morning, way past my usual bedtime. I found the main characters to be believable and the plot was full of unexpected twists and turns. And I should mention, if you read this book, you will definitely HAVE to read the sequel.

Though the book is published by Zondervan, with the exception of the notable absence of profanity and immoral behavior (on the part of the "good guys" anyway), there is little about Farraday Road that would mark it as a Christian book. That could be either a positive or a negative depending on your perspective. I enjoy reading some Christian fiction, but I do not like books that seem to have had the Christian aspect added as an after-thought. I also do not like fiction books to be preachy. I want to think about what message the author is trying to convey. Ace Collins neither preaches, nor tacks on Christianity, which I definitely appreciate.

I received a copy of Farraday Road for free from Zondervan in exchange for my honest review. I was not compensated for this review.

What's On Your NightstandOn My Nightstand:
I’ve been working through the books that have been long-time residents on my nightstand for the Fall into Reading Challenge. Still on the nightstand to finish before December 21 are:

The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman (on page 403 out of 635)

Called to Worship: The Biblical Foundations of Our Response to God
by Vernon Whaley, Ph.D. (on page 118 of 337)

Call the Sabbath a Delight by Walter Chantry (haven’t started, but it’s short, 109 pages)

The Sneaky Chef: Simple Strategies for Hiding Healthy Foods in Kids’ Favorite Meals by Missy Chase Lapine  (almost finished with the text before the recipes)

So, I’ve got about 600 pages to read and just over 3 activity-packed weeks to do it. I’m still hoping to finish!
