Why Sunrise to Sunset?

I used to blog under the extremely uncreative name A Day in the Life. When I first started blogging, I didn’t know if I was going to continue blogging, and I had no idea how important a name was. I had to choose a title, and A Day in the Life was all that came to mind. So that’s what it was—for 5 long years.

I grew to hate the name. But I couldn’t think of anything else.

Finally I asked my husband to help. I told him I wanted to something that would still have the idea of a day in it, but I wanted something more.

He started singing this.

At first I laughed.

Then I realized, this new name worked on so many different levels.

First, it still had the day theme to carry over from my old blog. I write about much of our day to day life. This blog is about anything that happens from sunrise to sunset  (and in between too.)

In addition, I like the saying,

“The days are long, but the years are short.”

I’m in that stage of life. I can’t believe how fast the years are flying by. My oldest son is 13. I know that seemingly before I blink, he will be off to college! But some days I feel will never end. There are so many tasks (like laundry) that seem never-ending.

Finally, this verse has always been very special to me.

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Psalm 103:12

There are no points on earth that are the farthest east and west you can go. So through Christ our sins are completely removed from us! Infinitely! They’ve been removed!

And that’s why I blog.

That’s why I do everything.

My purpose in life is to bring Him glory.

From Sunrise to Sunset.

  3. I love your new blog and name. The story behind the name is great. My husband sings (parts) of that song, too. I also made the plunge to my own domain–exciting! Happy blogging to you!

  4. Kristen,
congratulations on taking the plunge to your own site.
Love the song from “Fiddler on the Roof”, and the foundation scripture – surely one of the top 10 for believers! (Are we even allowed to have favourites?)
    Well done.

  5. Popping over from the Crew forum to check it out. Glad I did! Not only did I get to read about why you chose your blog name (great story!) but I finally signed up for Linky Followers. 😉
